Finally manage to get some sketches uploaded. My laptop's on the blink, so no internet... suffering severe withdrawal. Anyway... Silent Hill 2, has to be one of the best games ever for totally freaking your head out.... brilliant... The nurses give me the creeps every time.

Might try ol' Pyramid Head soon.... really need to get laptop fixed or get a nice new shiny one!!

Space Penguin - 24hr Comics Anthology

This year for the Irish 24hr Comic Challenge Cliodhna put together a cool little anthology.
Since this year the challenge was associated with Children's Books Ireland and included workshops for kids... this little yarn is rated G. (unlike what I drew on the day... more on that later.)

Hang in there chums

Halloo, hang in there chums, I know things have been a bit lax the last while.... been busy hunched over the ol' drawing board and/or keyboard, not to mention the hours off out tryin' to earn a crust!
Any way... the Longstone Halloween Special is nearing completion, the 24 hr Comic Challenge is hurtling towards us at speed with accompanying anthology, all organised by Cliodhna, and all things comic-y should start hotting up in the near future!

A Note in the post

Had a lovely surprise today... got a parcel of goodies from Phil Barrett. I had asked Phil for a copy of The Littlest Arsonist which he and Liam Geraghty collaborated on, and tucked into the envelope with it was one of Phils's Phamous Notes. This was done in the pub last night. Hilbo was telling us the story to which this is the visual accompaniment... It's okay, the lady who collapsed was fine, but Ian and I split our sides, cos Hilbo tells a story really well and I couldn't resist doodling.... so, here ya go Eno, enjoy!

Amanirena

So here we are, final day of the challenge and I nearly lost the old eyebrows at the very last moment. Real hard to get my shit together today. Anyway, finally settled down to doodling and had fun with a character that I'm going to use in a future story. This is Amanirena, a Rim Worlds prospector and sometime mercenary. Right I'm off to party with Hilbo for the weekend.... post soon.....

Talking to Hilbo earlier... this is the penultimate day before our challenge ends... there was a time that it looked a too daunting prospect...but whaddaya know...here we are.... amárach!

Ok, it's probably better not to ask.... this was in a dream last night... This is also the first drawing done from scratch on the computer...All Hail Wacom!...finally beginning to get used to it.
Didn't turn out quite like it appeared in my head, but was also imbibing some vino for the duration.

I Hate Colds

This is todays offering, which is basically just any ol' shite so's not to miss a day. Also in case this cold gets any worse I'm saving my 'get out of jail' card that Hilary has offered, ta chickie. Tomorrow I might just be one of the walking dead. Sent the black and white version of this to the Dublin Comic Jam, which is on tonight, don't forget to keep an eye on their blog.
I'm off for more whiskey and a nap!

Bike 1

This is Lilith's hog. Thought I'd try to draw the bikes first before I do any vampires riding them.
Will get to a colour version, but this is it for the moment...I've got a bastard of a cold and a head like a turnip! This btw is a Harley-Davidson Screaming Eagle, and if anyone's ever stuck for a pressie to get me... one of these would do nicely.

Light

Thought I mess about with light today. Had watched Angel Heart for the first time in years... I had forgotten how beautifully lit parts of that film are... lovely, brooding, menacing noir feel.
Anyway, there's a bit where Harry Angel is about to go thru' a door and you know it's not going to be pleasant on the other side... That image stuck in my head, and here we are.....

Precedents

Meh! Need a rest from vampires and since the precedent has already been established by Hilary, that tea is a good thing. Intermission, part II. Tea and Buns!!

Lilith & Lena

Ok, made some changes to Lilith and coloured both her and Lena. That's the whole gang!
My hand hurts and the only thing I'm capable of holding now is a lovely cold bottle of beer... sounds like a plan!

Beatrice

This is Beatrice, the last of the vampires. Had fun doing this! Makes me think,it's time to go back and work on the others. Also need to do a group pic, cos it's important to see them in relation to each other.... Then it will be time to do the transport... Vroooooom!

Lena

Tody's posting is Lena, the third Vampire in a gang of four. I will go noodling with colour and stuff another day. This was a quickie in b&w cos me n Hilbo n the boys have to party!!!!

Eusebio

So, here's another character from Peter's story. This guy is Eusebio, he hangs round with Lilith and is another Vampire. He likes hitting things with his stalagtite!

Lilith

This is the first preliminary design for a character called Lilith in a new story being written by Peter Loftus. Everyone in Longstone comics is in on this one, and because Hilary and I are doing this nutty 'Eyebrow Challenge', Peter is allowing us post our developmental drawings...
Which is cool, cos really, there's a finite amount of hours in the day and the chicks are more likely to prioritise the eyebrows over a comic!
Yez are getting the b&w inked version cos I did try a coloured version, but was muckin' about with new software and frankly, it turned out to be complete bollox!

Vamp

Oh Boy! This is turning out to be truly a challenge trying to get something done and shoved online every day. Guess we're bound to hit a slump at some point.... but then that's part of it: do what you can, even if your knackered, distracted and think what you've drawn is utter crap, you gotta keep going..... eyebrows safe for another day!

Judge Death

Right, I know this is three minutes late....it doesn't count! The feckin' interweb was broken for 'bout an hour here and we've only just got back online... and anyway there's more than three minutes worth of doodlin' here!!! Anybody got a problem, yez can take it up with The Judge!

Goblin

This guys a nasty piece of work. Reckon he managed to survive being cannibalised by his mates when he lost his arm by quickly adapting. Now he butchers other injured goblins who are no use for fighting any more.... lovely!

Turning to the Dark Side

Started out intending to do quick pencils and then ink them and possibly chuck in some colour. Got carried away and the Jedi I had intended doing ended up becoming a Sith. Also got carried away with the ol' pencil.... So, today's pic is a Sith Lord, have to dream up a suitably menacing name for him. Might at another time do an inked and coloured version, but for the moment, I'm off to wash my hands (they're all grey) and have a nice cup of tea and maybe something chocolatey!

Shootin' Shit

Ok, had a bit of a nutty day, ended up really knackered and very giddy! By way of relaxation played Timesplitters for a bit... I'm really crap at PS games, but there's nuthin' like shootin' shit for getting the giddiness gone. So hmmm, thought I'd give doodling Cortez a go, et voilá!

Thor

Another trip down memory lane... Used to love Thor as a kid too, especially Jack Kirby's drawings in Marvel's 'Journey into Mystery' comics.
It's that penchant for all things Nordic breaking out as well, but mainly cos Thor is bloody good fun to draw! Left it even closer to the wire for today, but eyebrows safe!!!

The Mekon has confiscated Minnies Ray Gun

Whew! After much procrastination finally settled down to doodle. Would have liked to have coloured this guy but ran out of time...want to hang on to my eyebrows!!!
Used to love Dan Dare when I was a kid. The Mekon was probably the first 'bad guy' to properly freak me out, but then I was only six or seven, and I still don't think I'd invite him over for tea.

The Eyebrow Challenge

This is the Eyebrow Challenge! At various times in the past, to help and encourage each other, my mate Hilary and I have threatened to shave each others eyebrows off if we don't get drawings done to deadlines. This has been a private arrangement up to now, but Hilary, in her infinite wisdom, has decided it makes a good reciprocal threat to ensure we post a sketch a day on our blogs for the remainder of the month of July. So here's mine for today.
Also, it is said, that if you shave your eyebrows off they don't necessarily grow back.... too grim to contemplate! ( there is some lee-way for missing a day or two, but the excuse has to be spectacularly out of the ordinary!!!)

When I was a kid I used to the love the original Battlestar Galactica, especially the Cylons. My mate Hilbo thinks they're shite and don't kick ass like the new ones. Arse!!! Nostalgia Rocks....and they are so super-shiney with swords!!!

Ok, just discovered and downloaded some 'Swedish Viking Metal', a sort of Death Metal/Folk hybrid...Fantastic!!!! Now on a bit of a Nordic binge, hence the viking doodle. Messin' about with a HB pencil. Then played with with the nifty blue-that-won't-scan-pencils that my mate Hilbo got me for my birthday, and inked Olaf sittin' on his bench...and all done while watching 'Pathfinder'... Clancy Brown can shout in icelandic in my ear any time!

D&D

Wheee, 'Downpour' is finally done and dusted and on it's way to be printed. All being well, should find myself peering at a box full of freshly baked comics in about a week and half or two.
So, while I potter off to start sortin' the next project, here's the cover.

SFA

Okay, it might look like I've been up to Sweet feck All... but not so! It's just that the evidence to prove my busy-ness is not posted.
Nearly done with Petey's story 'Downpour', mind is mush and my hand gets the shakes from the interminable claw-like white-knuckle grip on the pen... the end is nigh!
In the meantime, don't forget to check Minnie, my other blog, it gets updated way more often, and there's nice colours. Just cos we're heading for summer, I think more colour is needed, must get onto that. Spectacular ineptitude perhaps

Hmmm, what can I say. It's been a while.... I suppose I could try and make excuses.
Combination of occasional busy-ness and couldn't be arsed-ness. I survived january, has to be the grimmest month of the year. Been scribbling like mad for the last 3 weeks... Beginning to get sorted for the 2D festival in Derry this june. Gettin' stuff done for another Longstone Comics anthology, and noodling around with other extraneous shit!!!
I got a new pentel brushpen. Takes some getting used to, but, oooh....lovely!
Once I manage to make some half-way coherent marks on paper I'll upload. Hee hee, that sounds slightly rude, nice: )
